Is Blake Griffin’s NBA Career Coming to an End?
Celtics President Hints at Retirement
Griffin Weighs Options After Celtics Interest
NBA veteran Blake Griffin’s absence during the 2023-24 season has sparked rumors of his retirement. Despite interest from the Boston Celtics, Griffin remains undecided about his future, with Celtics president Brad Stevens revealing that the All-Star is considering hanging up his sneakers.
Stevens told The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn that Griffin is considering retirement. “I told him we’d love to have you join us, but you may not play when Robert Williams gets back from injury.” Stevens’ statement suggests that Griffin may not be interested in a reduced role with the Celtics.
Griffin, 35, has had a decorated career, earning six All-Star selections and five All-NBA Team selections. However, injuries have taken a toll in recent years, limiting his playing time and effectiveness. Griffin last played for the Celtics during the 2021-22 season, appearing in just 36 games.
The Celtics’ interest in Griffin stems from their need for an experienced backup center. However, Griffin’s decision will ultimately depend on his desire to continue playing and his willingness to accept a limited role. If he does retire, it will mark the end of an era for one of the most talented and decorated players of his generation.
