Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United, often stylised as Man Utd or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football.
Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910. United's home ground has been expanded several times over the years, and it now has a capacity of 74,140, making it the largest club stadium in the United Kingdom and the second-largest stadium in England overall, after Wembley Stadium.
United have won a record 13 Premier League titles, 12 FA Cups, five Football League Cups and 21 FA Community Shields. They were the first English club to win the European Cup, which they did in 1968 after defeating Benfica 4–1 in the final at Wembley Stadium. United have also won the UEFA Champions League three times, in 1999, 2008 and 2017. In addition to their 40 domestic and European trophies, United have also won the Intercontinental Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup once each, making them one of the most successful clubs in world football.
United are one of the most popular and widely supported football clubs in the world. The club's revenue is estimated to be over £600 million per year, and it is one of the most valuable sports teams in the world. United have a long-standing rivalry with Liverpool, and the two clubs are considered to be the most successful and well-supported clubs in English football history.
