In a groundbreaking move, Taiwan has become the first country in its sports history to explicitly allow transgender middle and high school athletes to participate. This historic decision marks a significant step forward for transgender inclusion in sports.

Two boxers, Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan (competing under Chinese Taipei), have been approved to fight in women's divisions. Notably, neither Khelif nor Yu-ting identify as transgender. Both boxers have competed in the Olympics, with Khelif representing Algeria in 2021 and Yu-ting representing Chinese Taipei in 2021.

This news is particularly significant as it comes just ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Neither Khelif nor Yu-ting are making their Olympic debuts, but their presence in the upcoming Games will undoubtedly be a powerful symbol of inclusivity and progress in the world of sports.
