Russian Activist Accused Security Agency of Poisoning
In December 2020, Navalny accused agents from Russia's security agency, the FSB, of poisoning him. On Saturday, Navalny's family confirmed that the political activist died at 14:17 local time (09:17 GMT) on Friday, February 16.
Putin's Most Feared Opponent
Navalny, 47, was Russia's most significant opposition leader for the past decade. Jailed and repeatedly targeted by the Kremlin, he remained an outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin. His death in an Arctic penal colony has sparked international outrage.
His wife, Yulia Navalnaya, paid tribute to her late husband, saying, "You are the bravest man I know. I promise to keep fighting for everything you fought for."
